As a public service, I want to talk a bit about a frustrating situation I've been trying to tackle with the Minneapolis Police Department.
On the night of Wednesday, Oct 30th, my girlfriend was rufied at the James Ballentine "Uptown" VFW - Post 246. She got out of the bar with her friend, but the perp put enough GHB in the half vodka lemonade that she drank to cause her to vomit for hours, hallucinate, have difficulty breathing, and feel like she was going to die. Her legs were paralyzed, which is a common symptom of overdose. Her friend told her he was worried she was on the verge of going into a coma because of how slow and inconsistent her breathing was.
In most situations like these, there's little way to determine who drugged someone's drink with the intent to sexually assault them. In this situation however, after the perp told my girlfriend that she 'couldn't leave' the bar, she quickly went to a security guy to let him know that the perp was being a creep, and the security guy informed her that the perp was already in trouble because his debit card wasn't going through and couldn't cover the drinks he had ordered. The perp was escorted out of the club by security and on the ride home from the VFW, the effects of the GHB kicked in. My girlfriend would recognize the perp if she saw him, but didn't get his name.
I've been to the VFW four times now to talk with security and management about gathering the information necessary to identify the perp. They've been very helpful and sympathetic and they keep records of transactions and surveillance video files. They've told me that they can provide this information to the police, but not to me.
My girlfriend made a detailed police report on November 1st, after spending much of Halloween in the hospital (and waiting there for two hours for the police to not show up, at that).
After about a few days of waiting, I called the Minneapolis Police Fifth Precinct and found out that no one had investigated the case yet, and that it had been assigned to a Lieutenant Don Jack, who hasn't yet assigned an investigator to it. We've now left voicemails for Lieutenant Jack three times, and have received no response.
It's been over two weeks since the incident, and so far as I can tell the Minneapolis Police haven't lifted a finger to investigate this situation. We've made it clear to them that they should easily be able to identify the perp by talking to a few people who work at the VFW and by cross referencing the transaction records with the surveillance footage. We've essentially handed them a dangerous sexual predator on a silver platter and they've done nothing.
This isn't how a functional or accountable police department operates, and I can't express how deeply troubling and disappointing it is that the authorities who have been deemed the only people allowed to deal with this situation simply aren't bothering to do so.
I am building Minneapolis in Cities: Skylies. I would like someone to make me custom assets for me. If you are intersested, please leave a comment on this post, or the video. Please subscribe so you do not miss a video. Thanks!
Well it’s that time of year for 2021 home valuations and if you opened and closed a building permit in the last year you probably are like me and received a notice stating the assessor wants to see your property.
I complied last year and it was raised pretty significantly, but I feel burdened to comply this year.
What has been your experience with the local assessors and did you ignore or comply?
