This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?

  • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?

  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

Have a question about the subreddit or otherwise for r/buildapc mods? We welcome your mod mail!

So many people ask if they should wait, then end up missing a deal! Keep an eye out and if the price is right pull the trigger.

It's one of the greatest times to be building a gaming/workstation PC. The value this year is insane!

I recently bought all this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QCFYHB and it was only $570 AFTER TAXES

r/buildapcsales has been enormously helpful for anyone trying to find a deal

I've been around this subreddit for a while and I see a lot of misinformation when it comes to running different combinations at different refresh rates. In particular, I've seen quite a few people say that 1440p 60hz is harder or just the same as 1080p 144hz - which is just straight up incorrect. It's around 25% easier.

Whether or not you can hit these numbers depends on the entire rest of your build so I didn't want to go into that but if anyone is trying to choose a monitor this should help.

EDIT: I should have specified that I am being entirely theoretical here, the actual numbers will be different depending on multiple factors

About to build my first rig in a while and I've never utilized the black friday sales. Do you get better deals on black friday or cyber monday?

Title says it. He got tangled in my headphone cord and got scared and ran. Knocked entire pc from a 2 1/2 feet desk. Is there any i should check on or any soft ware i can run to make sure everything is ok? None of my wires detached, but my pc did restart.

I'm planning to build a budget Ryzen 5 2600 + RX 570 build.
My friends suggested me to go straight to a MSI Mortar B450 board because of better VRMs, better BIOS and stable OC.
They also said that Gigabyte boards have awful BIOS and average VRM.

I'm a complete beginner, I haven't build a PC from scratch ever since. Also my budget is tight.
The price of the Gigabyte B450M is waaaay cheaper than the MSI boards in my country (Philippines).
I am not planning to go crazy on overclocking or intense modding, would I be fine with a cheap Gigabyte B450 board?
