Stickied post

Are you looking for something to do? Would you like to advertise your event? Want to suggest something to everyone? Whether it's a show, a play, a conference, a restaurant opening, or whatever, this is where you can stick all of it. This is a monthly post that is useful for Vancouverites, useful for tourists, and useful for the main Vancouver sub.

New

Please post any opportunities to volunteer that you want the subreddit to know about. This thread will be curated periodically to keep the events of the week fresh and visible.

Who?

Events don't need to be yours! You're welcome to post any interesting/fun/unknown/well known/moderately-enjoyable events. Will remove posts completely off topic (like a link to one's unrelated blog or comments about how there's nothing to do in this city)

I am a teacher and I love my job.

This is my second year, I make 53,182, this nets about 1320 every two weeks. I teach in high school. I have four classes and no prep time this semester. I'm teaching 3 separate courses and I have never taught any of these courses before.  I work from 7:30-6 pm but on Fridays, I try to leave by 5. I'm rarely successful. If I leave by five every Friday, my hourly would be 25.82 per hour before deductions. This doesn't count the work I bring home, about 10 more hours per week. I have two degrees and am completing my  Post Bacc in Special Education to better equip myself to meet the needs of my students.

I am a teacher and I love my job.

My classes do not meet class size and composition standards.

Class One has 24 students: 3 are designated as having moderate behaviour or mental illness, 4 are learning English, 2 are designated as severe behaviour or mental illness, 2 have mild intellectual disabilities, 2 have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, 2 have autism, and 1 has a learning disability. I do not have support in this class.

Class Two has 31 students: 2 have moderate behaviour or mental illness, 1 is learning English, 2 have chronic health conditions that impact their learning, 4 have learning disabilities, 3 have mild intellectual disabilities. I do not have support in this class.

Class Three has 31 students: 6 are learning English, 2 have chronic health conditions that impact their learning, 1 has a learning disability, 3 have mild intellectual disabilities, 1 has a moderate intellectual disability, 1 has autism and 1 is gifted. I'm supposed to have support 3 times a week, but it is pulled about twice per week due to needs elsewhere.

Class Four has 30 students: 8 are learning English, 1 has a mild intellectual disability, 1 has a moderate intellectual disability, 2 have learning disabilities, 1 has autism and 1 has moderate behaviour or mental illness. I do not have support in this class.

I am a teacher and I'm tired.

I love my job but I need support to do it well. Please tell the government to raise the funding package available for BCPSEA to bargain with. I need EAs in my class and planning time to plan lessons. I need to earn enough money to live and to pay off my student loans.

Where on earth can a black girl get a decent curly dry haircut? Can’t find a single salon or stylist who has real experience and pictures of course curly hair. I’m specifically looking for a rezo haircut or in the very least someone who knows what they’re doing with textured and natural true curl patterns. Also preferably looking for a black stylist but at this point I’m open to anyone north of Seattle to Vancouver. Any... suggestions 😫
